Thoughts from Juaboso: Truths everyone should accept in life

Image
These are random thoughts I wrote when I was at Juaboso. These journeys have given me new perspective about live, Ghana and people.  Some are truths and some are not;    If you think you just need intelligence to succeed, then this belief will make your life difficult because success only comes to those who also know how to digest failures, criticism, standing alone, painful time, lonely nights, long hours, keep working even when there is  1% chance  of success, that is only achieved by one quality — Resilience. Companies expect 10 years of experience from you while hiring you (completely forget they gave ad for fresh graduate) but while giving you salary they perfectly remember that you are graduate. Stop  labeling  yourself without even trying things. Because, the thing you consider impossible, will only become possible, once you try it. Once you failed in maths — in class 1, that doesn’t mean you’ll fail in maths again in engineering exam. So, stop ...

Birthday Reflection: Man on a Journey

Image
Birthday, A time for reflection into the past and present. My favourite birthday has always been my 5th Birthday until my 21st Birthday. On my 5th Birthday, my mother organised a Birthday party for me, all the Children in the neighbourhood attended and most importantly it was the first time someone(our age group) had organised a birthday party. I felt special from that day and it is the reason I am always special. A birthday party In a middle class community in Nsawam 18 years ago created an impression on me. 21, this is now my best Birthday celebration yet. My sister organised a small drinkup, we invited some close "new friends" we've got since we were new Mampong. I Introduced the idea of Hope Journey to people outside my family for the first time, this was supposed to be an event but now Hope Journey is The Hope Journey. Reflection. Education, recent years have thought me a lot about school and God's plan. My path towards higher educational has been interestin...

Change the world, my manifesto

Image
I am writing this on my way to the NATIONAL SERVICE orientation by GRA. I am sitting in a trotro, my readers outside Ghana, a trotro is a type of public transport here in Ghana. The driver is playing a song I don't know the title but its talking about dreams I think it's wutah's song. It has ignited something in me I don't know I only feel like typing this. All I want to do is change the world for the better and show people that living for Jesus christ is a life worth living. I wish I could connect with the right people to help me make positive changes out here. I want to see the smiles and tears of hardworking parents trying to provide for their kids get relief from their worries through charitable efforts. I would love to be in the position to pay for the education of multiple families and even pay some bills to help people get ahead. To give them a much needed break in life and the opportunity to better their situation. I want to do so much to make this world a ...

Remember You're alone.

Image
Growing up my mother told me a story. I learnt a lot of lessons from it and it guided me! There was a very popular and wealthy man in a town known for his wealth, benevolence and philanthropy. Unfortunately he died and the entire town was saddened and in a state of despair. On the day of the lay-in-state the entire town cried, wailed loudly exclaiming: "we will go with you". After a few hours of the wailing the electricity (power) went out and the same people who were crying and wailing began running away due to the darkness. The chief of the town who was also rushing out unfortunately had his funeral attire hooked to a nail on the main canopy erected over the dead body. The chief began to cry and beg the dead man that he was just joking about "going with him" and that it was just a statement of solidarity but not that of actual commitment. Moral of the story: Sometimes people would chant to be with you, stand by you etc but the day of the commitment or crucifi...

Friends: When we were no more friends again but we look like friends.

Image
Sometimes you have this buddy of yours,  you were too close, you help each other, do stuff together and then one day you discover your friend has another friend who is your enemy. They will at least one day discuss you. I wrote this two weeks ago on my way to Tema from Mampong-Akuapem. I was thinking about a lot of stuff that is going on in life. One which caught my attention most is fake friends or enemies in disguise.  When are new at a place we get more friends,  new friends,  good friends and bad friends; Everyone wants to be your friend because of one reason or another. As time goes on we discover true friends from the fake friends.  So who are friends?   A friend is someone who is closer to you than an acquaintance.  You advice him, he advices you, you give him stuff he gives you stuff (exchange gifts) Friendship is not a one party receive affair, if it becomes like that one will get too 'tired' of the other. How do we consider someone a...

This is Nothing how I in-visioned These books and over re-vision got me pushing back my wisdom that ain't even the half been weak since I went class. Thinking deep If I would pass. Because none of these in my heart cause really I was lonely missing all my homies back in Nsawam I still cant believe that for three years, how can u manage losing all your habits, eating yam and shito every afternoon. And the teachers were speaking a different programming languages, getting me falling asleep, how the f*ck can I understand this? Sitting all alone visualizing home and all my friends were just these pictures on my phone; Mom cooked delicious food. Siblings fight. Father’s sense of humour and strict discipline . Peace List is endless, obviously it can not be one.

Letters to Self -02/18

Do you remember the last conversation you had with mother's mother on her last visit,  when you asked her about what kept her through life all these while? With that usual smile she started with the lines; "É›nfa ho sÉ› nea noÉ”ma bÉ› yÉ›, bi biaa bÉ› fine." (Things will be alright soon, no matter how it gets). And she to you  that the simplest thing about the world is that we worry about stuff that don't matter, we care a lot about our failures and grudge with people, we care about money and not service to humanity,we normally care about what we will get than what we will give. Forgetting that one day we would have to leave a legacy. Anti Akyeampomaa said this and left without returning back to us and it's almost a year now.  Things are really getting alright,  I'm almost finding myself, I'm becoming the Agya wusu you used to call me, growing faster than anticipated, my siblings and I will make you proud. We miss you. Theresa Akyeampomaa Rip. N...

Letters to self - 01/18

Image
They become close to you because of what you can do for them Fall into trouble, they'll be like they've not seen you suffering Come out of the trouble, they'll be like we didn't know you were serious about it. Ask them for help they'll be like I don't have I don't have; let them fall into trouble and act like them, they'll be like you have changed, you're becoming wicked, you're now becoming an a*s hole. Become rich, your whole village want to be associated with your name, become poor and nobody ever knew you. Become hungry and nobody would want to feed you, fall sick and nobody knows where the hospital is located, die and they'll write unknown tributes for you. Society is indeed stuck on a druken stupor. Treat humans based on your discretion! Just care about yourself first.

WHY DO YOU WRITE THESE LETTERS? -State of Blogging in Ghana

Image
It was a normal night or was it evening,? listening to Kendrick Lamar's new album, Damn in the darkness of the nationwide Dumsor;  I saw  a message in my notification from an old friend, This old friend ask me why have you stopped? wondering  what she was talking about, I asked her and she replied the letters to yourself  =D I sent her my usual "lol" and here's is what I told her; Why I blog & What I think About Blogging in General  I love writing anything that comes in mind, I honestly write these letters to myself and I think this is just my style, there are other reasons. There are many personal reasons why people want to create a blog post whether it's telling a story, documenting their life or even to raise awareness for a cause that means something to them. The most common thing I hear from Bloggers is that they just wanted to share their views on whatever subject it is they Blog about. Blogging is a lot more personal than just posting a stat...

It is February: Forget New Year’s Resolutions.

Image
I am Currently listening to Worlasi Gh - freedom ft Poetra Asantewa Sipping my ceylon green tea and I feel like typing this here without editing and here it goes.   I intentionally didn't post anything here on January because I'm learning to stop the new year new me life.  NO I don’t need the New Year to make a change, set resolutions or goals. Many people feel pressure to set resolutions for the new year, but sadly the statistics show an extremely high rate of failure in accomplishing or maintaining them. If changes to be made are only within ones desire or grasp at the beginning of a calendar new year, it warrants them less important and often people use it as an excuse to drag and delay a change that is too challenging for them. Nowadays, the New Year is a time of promise, hope, and change across the world, but how often does it prove to be successful? At the start of each year, people create resolutions for themselves to achieve, and carry out across the whole ye...

Christmas? meaning of Christmas

Image
feel like writing... Christmas? Is it the gifts under the tree, the lights in the windows, the cards in the mail/whatsapp messages, 'akokonam' dinners with family and friends, hamatharn, and shouts of "Merry Christmas" to those who pass us in the streets? Is this really Christmas? For many people, Christmas is a time of sorrow. They don't have the extra money to buy presents for their children, family, and friends. Many are saddened at Christmastime when they think of their loved ones who will not be able to come home for various reasons. Akoko nkwan dinners may be only a wish and not a reality for some. Yet, Christmas can be a season of great joy. It is a time of God showing His great love for us. It can be a time of healing and renewed strength. You see, Christmas is when we celebrate the birth of the Christ child. God sent His Son, Jesus, into the world to be born. His birth brought great joy to the world. Shepherds, wise men, and angels...

Some things to consider during "hyping" an event using a flyer

Image
A picture is worth a thousand words, and a flyer tends to grab more attention (online and offline) than a block of text. That’s why visuals are now an almost vital step when marketing an online event. Whether you create a flyer yourself or have another person/business create something(  I'Redy Labs  creates the coolest ones ), the next step is sharing it online and offline. Some things to consider during hyping: 1.Shape, Size, Format: The dimensions and sizes for featured images for all social media platforms change from year to year, and it’s worth double checking if you aren’t sure. No one wants to have their event flyer cut off in a weird place on the Facebook Event photo 2.Share-ability:Although you’re using the image as your business, it helps to create something that others will in turn share on their own personal accounts and help promote things for you. 3.Does your event have a hashtag?Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, Facebook, and Instagram all use hashtags, and...

How important is it brand name match when selling a product or service?

Image
My mom taught me branding and customer service way back in Nsawam when I was like 12 years, we used to have this little foods stuff store where she sold gari and other stuff, I noticed that the people in our neighborhood were always buying from her and some could even wait for her to restock the store till they buy what they want when we were outta stock, an evidence that her business was booming since she had loyal customers, I asked her about her secret and she said "Just treat them nice, give them the best service and product and they will come back because you have a good name in town" she said this and smiled at me. That is where I learnt the relationship between brands and service/product. I grew up tinkering with tech stuff so I know a little about tech brands. Think about Google. I remember when I first heard it and I was like, “what the heck is that?” For years now, Google is a well known definition and verb. Who was the 5th president? “I do...

How to get a logo for your start-up which can survive in the memory of the people for many decades?

Image
The idea of logo is to represent or symbolize your company. Its a design used by company/organisation for its advertisement , promotional from which your company can be easily recognized. Its only the product or service given by particular company /organisation to society which makes your company survive in market and in memory of people for decade, hence your logo. You can use different logo making and creation tools such as: Adobe Illustrator Corel Draw Logomaker A logo is more than just a beautiful imagery; it is your brand identity. Logos are the single most visible manifestation of a company’s brand within the target market so it is of paramount importance that they should be designed simply and should be thought provoking. Not only the design but the color combination should be so chosen, that it stays in the mind of the viewer. Although, The IT market is flooded with thousands of good branding agencies and logo designers, but your business deserves the best....

What is the most effective way to learn?

Image
An old teacher of mine told me a story that stuck with me the rest of my life: A pottery teacher split her class into two halves.  To the first half she said, "You will spend the semester studying pottery, planning, designing, and creating your perfect pot.  At the end of the semester, there will be a competition to see whose pot is the best". To the other half she said, "You will spend your semester making lots of pots.  Your grade will be based on the number of completed pots you finish.  At the end of the semester, you'll also have the opportunity to enter your best pot into a competition." The first half of the class threw themselves into their research, planning, and design.  Then they set about creating their one, perfect pot for the competition. The second half of the class immediately grabbed fistfulls of clay and started churning out pots.  They made big ones, small ones, simple ones, and intricate ones.  Their muscles ached for weeks as...

GHANA MUSIC: The revolution will not be televised

Image
So I wrote an article on the new era and someone sent me this mail after he read it. "Dude, you said what I thought but how are we going to know the new era is started or starting?" So I decided to write a part two on the new era well I must say I'm no genius in this music thing. I am just a blogger who accidentally created a music store. So I don't know much. lol So what is revolution?  A revolution is basically a fundamental change in something,  be it political or anything else.  Era? Era is a span of time. New? Is new lol new is first time something. After all these "nonfa" (nonfa is a Ghanaian term for not needed stuff or out of way). I would shift back to how the revolution will be starting. I must admit,  the revolution has already started. You need not to be schooled on it. When hiplife started in the late 90s and early 2000s nobody saw it becoming something bigger like we see now. Adults hated hip-life back then. I remember my Dad used t...

Let's talk about lyricism in Ghana music

Image
People always say Ghanaians don't care about lyrics and shit but I have never bought into that crap talk. I have had many personal experiences to back my believe. I remember 2014 or so when I was at the Vodafone office In Tema community 1 and a certain slim fair girl(my close friends know my obsession with them, that's why I like taylor swift) was sitting by me. She had a call and her ringtone was Bruno Mars' Grenade. I asked her if she knew what a grenade was, she said no and I taught her and broke down the song for her. She was all smile and we ended up hanging out all night after the leaving the Vodafone office by taking a walk from community 1 to community 6 (close friends know I like to walk) because I explained a few more lyrics to her. She said she loved the songs more she understood them. I remember one time same yea when I was listening to Jay Z and he said something dope and I screamed, "Herh, I love Jay Z" the track is off osei's collection o...

NOTES FROM THE NSAWAM STREET: If You Don't Give Me an Affection for Others

Image
Psalm 49 Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world...  Last post of the "notes from the Nsawam street" series And it goes like this I recall all alone life and family and a portion of the most exceedingly awful times throughout my life and how I have survived and been honored by God. Genuine! it frequently hasn't been a luxurious situation, life has been hard and even brutal, awful and weepy but then here I am applauding God for even those horrendous times. Likely one of the hardest things to overcome is the demise of a kid or mate, most importantly a loved one – The nearest I have gone to that frightfulness is the passing of my Gradma. It had such a lamentable impact on my Mum and Dad and to the day they kicked the bucket they always remembered her and we as a whole grew up realizing that a catastrophe of gigantic extents had happened to our family. We were perusing only today in Psalm 49 of how demise finds everybody nobody i...
