Branding yourself as an artiste in 2016

I Iove Apple even though I still don't own an iPhone after I lost my iPhone 4s. I love Apple because of branding and Steve Jobs. Today in history Apple debuts its iconic “Think Different” television commercial, complete with accompanying print ads.
The most famous tagline in Apple history, the line doesn’t just articulate how Apple is different from other computer companies — but also how Apple under the leadership of Steve Jobs will differ from the floundering, money-losing Apple of the earlier 1990s.
I kno
w I'm blowing "nonfa" but then what do you personally think about Apple? As global brand,  a national brand and a modern brand.
There are some artists who have created a strong brand for themselves like kanye, Jay-Z, sarkodie, Amakye Dede, EL (saf its still under construction...lol), Kojo Antwi to mention a few.
The big question is how was it created?  How were they able to it? Is there any secret?
To every successful brand,  there's a secret behind it and the secret is a strategy. You don't wakeup and see strong brands in just a day. I love shata wale's brand not his music (close friends know this). He is the god of rebranding in Ghana music. From the bandana to shata wale is something very remarkable.
I know you still wondering when will this guy stop this "nonfa" and go straight la. Now let's go 😀

1: Define yourself.
No matter your genre, you yourself are your brand when it comes to the arts. Product companies like Nike or Apple have the advantage of not being people. While they certainly want consumers to choose their products, Apple Inc doesn’t get its feelings hurt if someone prefers a PC to a Mac. On the other hand, putting yourself out there as an artist is extremely personal – and scary.
What's your brand identity?
So it’s important not only to identify your brand but also to believe in it.

Think about questions like:

What are my values? What do I really care about?

What’s important to me aside from my art?

What’s my look? Is there a certain group of people I like to identify myself with stylistically?
Don’t get too existential about it, but do take some time to sort it out in your own head.

2. Define your target audience

"Defining a target audience is a best practice for anyone that needs others to give them something. It might be a salary, an investment or money in exchange for a product or service. Whenever you need something from someone you go through at least some of the steps in defining a target audience." Are you writing for people who love poetry or the azonto entertaining people. Know your audience.

3) Build up your online and offline assets

"Assets are the things you own that will communicate your brand message to your target audience. Assets are things like your own website and blog, but they can also be things like your Twitter username and your LinkedIn profile. Offline assets are things like business cards and or traditional newsletters that you send out." Remember shata wale start this whole war with charter house with videos on internet.

4.Build your brand through outreach

"Outreach is the act of providing value to those that have established audiences filled with the people you want to reach. You provide value and in exchange they give you the chance to sell yourself to the audience."

5.Get free press coverage

"Getting press coverage can establish you as an authority in your industry. You can get access to audiences full of the people that can hire you as an employee, partner and vendor. Getting free press coverage as an individual can be a challenge, but it can be done and be done effectively leading to the opportunities you seek as you work to grow your personal brand profile."

6.Connect with mentors

"A mentor is someone that can provide guidance and friendship for your life. They might have experience in the exact life path you want to pursue, but that quality is not a requirement. Often, the best mentors are simply good listeners, educators and friends."

7.Monitor your brand

Patel shares tools and discusses ways to monitor your brand online. Remember that if you're going to work so hard on your brand you should also work to find out what people are saying and, ideally, thinking which goes beyond the immediate feedback people are willing to give you.

8.Be yourself

Patel brings things full circle with the reminder that though you are making conscious choices about presenting yourself in public that may sometimes require you to change your behavior or appearance, they should still be based in what makes you uniquely you.

GHANA MUSIC: The revolution will not be televised

So I wrote an article on the new era and someone sent me this mail after he read it. "Dude, you said what I thought but how are we going to know the new era is started or starting?"
So I decided to write a part two on the new era well I must say I'm no genius in this music thing. I am just a blogger who accidentally created a music store. So I don't know much. lol

So what is revolution?
A revolution is basically a fundamental change in something,  be it political or anything else.
Era? Era is a span of time. New? Is new lol new is first time something.

After all these "nonfa" (nonfa is a Ghanaian term for not needed stuff or out of way). I would shift back to how the revolution will be starting. I must admit,  the revolution has already started. You need not to be schooled on it.
When hiplife started in the late 90s and early 2000s nobody saw it becoming something bigger like we see now. Adults hated hip-life back then. I remember my Dad used to change radio stations because of hiplife. But Obrafour, Hammer and co made it cooler for the younger generation. I think if 'Ghana adults' hate some new style then it may become something big. It's my view you can comment yours. lol
So last Thursday I walked into one of GHAMRO'S offices and the guys there had no idea of how music downloads is the new cooler thing and I had to educate them on it.
One of the signs of the new era is music downloads winning over radio play.

1.Let's talk music downloads and its revolution

An industry condition that led to the revolution in audio distribution was the transformation of music (songs and albums) to be available in a new digital recorded format (mp3). The MP3 format allowed songs the ability to be downloaded and played digitally on personal computers. Software programs allowed CD tracks to be converted to the new format. A larger industry condition was the birth of media sharing applications, the most popular being Napster, that allowed users to freely share and distribute mp3 formatted songs amongst other users (of the same file sharing application). The stakeholder that stood to benefit the most from this revolution is the music customer, particularly one that has a personal computer to take advantage of the new digital format.

The dawn of music stores.
The music stores created by the record labels failed to attract many subscribers because they used proprietary file formats, severely limited digital rights management schemes, and did not offer the extent of selection offered by unauthorized peer-to-peer services such as Napster (although they were already shut down from an agreement with the RIAA), Kazaa or Gnutella. If nothing else, they should have at least used the widely adopted mp3 format for their songs.
Apple then created something cooler called iTunes which many Ghanaians still don't use due to many factors  you want to know the factors,  read jbklute's article about why umusiconline is good for us.

Since the article is getting longer we shall continue later on this blog.
